Manchester Giants signalled their desire to improve quickly during
the offseason, with several high-profile signings.
When Mike McCall Jr arrived in the summer, fans expected the NBA G-League alumni to take life in the BBL in his stride. And, so far, the American point guard has lived up to the hype.
During his first three games as a Giant, the star guard is averaging 20 points, four rebounds and four assists on 49% shooting.
“I think the team is going to be fine,” began McCall.
“We’ve started the season with a 1-2 record: winning our first game on the road against DBL Sharks Sheffield but losing out to Surrey Scorchers and London City Royals in what were two winnable games.
“So we still have to tighten up on a couple of offensive and defensive principles and keep building our chemistry – but once we can figure it all out we’ll be dangerous in this league.
“We will definitely take the time we have off – due to not being involved in the British Basketball All-Stars Championship – to get better and work on the things that we struggled with during the last couple of games.
“Playing in three games so far, I’ve kind of gotten a feel of how teams like to play.
“We talk about it as a team and the guys know as well: if we lock down on the defensive end we will definitely be in the top half of the league.
“We know we can score whenever we want, we just have to keep working and building on the defensive end.”
