British duo set for Europe Training Camp ahead of Jr. NBA World Championship

The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced yesterday the 2018 Jr. NBA World Championship – Europe Training Camp, a four-day training camp for the boys team and girls team that will represent Europe at the first Jr. NBA World Championship, a first-of-its kind global youth basketball tournament for the top 13- and 14-year-old boys and girls teams from around the world.  It will take place from July 31 – Aug. 3 at the l’Alqueria del Basket training facility in Valencia, in partnership with Valencia Basket.

Valencia Basket’s training facility, which opened in 2017, features 13 basketball courts across the 15,000 m2 property.  Boasting the ability to conduct multiple games on high-quality parquet floors, the l’Alqueria del Basket will allow both teams to practice together for the first time, conduct team-building activities and prepare for the upcoming competition, taking place Aug. 7-12, 2018 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.

Marc Mendoza (male, 14) and Tinu Fakunle (female, 14), who are both from East London, will head to the Training Camp.

UK participant Marc Mendoza said: “The preparation for the Jr. NBA World Championship has been such a great journey already – I’m so excited to join up with my teammates at the camp in Valencia. I’m looking forward to showing everyone what I can do in Orlando. Let’s go!”

Tinu Fakunle, who will be competing on the European girls roster, said:  “I can’t wait to head out to the Jr. NBA World Championship – Europe Training Camp in Valencia. It will be great to meet up with everyone I met in Slovenia before heading to Orlando for the World Championship. I’m so excited to play and help get Team Europe as far as possible!”
