Last weekend, Sevenoaks Suns were crowned WBBL Championship winners – earning the first WBBL Championship title in the franchise’s history.
Having lost just once all campaign, the team sealed the title thanks to a typically pugnacious defensive display.
“It is such a huge achievement,” reflected Ashleigh Munns.
“The standard of games has been extremely high and to go the whole season only losing once shows exactly how focused we’ve been throughout the campaign.
“It was particularly noticeable during the times we managed to grind out wins when we weren’t playing particularly well – we managed to come back from large deficits on a few occasions.
“Winning the title has given a huge boost to the club, particularly to our juniors – some of whom have been on the bench with us this year.
“We practise with them too; it helps their development and keeps us on our toes.”
With the Play-Offs set to start this week, the team have had little time to celebrate their achievement.
Sevenoaks begin their post-season at home on Saturday, Cardiff Met Archers the visitors.
“Stef Collins will ensure Cardiff is focused and ready to play – they have a lot of momentum after their last minute push into the final Play-Offs place.
“We’re expecting them to come out firing and we need to be ready for that.
“We know we can’t take our foot off the pedal and we must continue to concentrate on one game at a time.
“We’ve had a great season and we don’t want it to end too soon. We’ll do all we can to extend it right up to the Play-Off Final on 20th May.”
