Winterburn reflects on first WBBL title with Riders

Leicester Riders secured their first WBBL title on Sunday, having defeated Sevenoaks Suns 68-53 in Saturday’s Betty Codona Trophy Final.

Rising star Holly Winterburn continued her remarkable season for the Riders, pouring in 16 points and netting several key baskets down the stretch.

“It really does mean a lot to win the Trophy,” began Winterburn.

“We have all worked really hard over the past month to come together as a team and it’s a great feeling know that it has all paid off.

“The win also gives us a load of momentum heading into a busy few weeks for us.

“Every game is crucial now that we’re heading towards the end of the regular season.

“I think we’ve shown ourselves what we are capable of when we play together. The win has given us a lot of confidence!

“On a personal note, I’m glad I could contribute to the victory.

“I was just playing basketball and took the opportunities when they came to me!

“I try to make the correct read in every situation and I felt like I did that which led to my scores.”

Leicester next takes to the court on Friday. The side host Manchester Mystics at Leicester Arena in front of the BBC Sport cameras – tip 5:00PM.
