Malcolm: Scotland remained strong to earn second Commonwealth victory

Team Scotland continued their perfect start to the 2018 Commonwealth Games with victory over Cameroon.

The side battled to a 63-52 victory, behind 25 points from Gareth Murray and 10 points each from Ali Fraser and Kieron Achara, despite a spirited fight from Cameroon.

The result puts Scotland at the top of Pool B, the only side to hold a perfect record in the group.

Unsurprisingly, confidence among the squad is high heading into tomorrow’s final Pool B clash against India.

“The England game gave us a lot of belief,” began Scotland’s Fraser Malcolm.

“I think it showed that we aren’t just here to take part and make up numbers.

“Today’s game proved to be a similar style of game, in the sense that Cameroon played an aggressive, athletic brand of basketball.

“We remained composed and mentally tough when it counted.

“We were struggling to make shots so we had to dig deep on defence and try find good looks.

“It’ll be very important to finish top.

“We have still got more to accomplish in the group stage and India are a talented team.

“We want to try to keep improving and keep the momentum going.”
