Reigning Trophy holders Leicester Riders will look to continue their stranglehold over the competition in this season’s Final on Sunday.
The Leicestershire based franchise are enjoying another fantastic season, sitting atop of the Championship standings having only lost twice.
But in DBL Sharks Sheffield, the Riders face a familiar and dangerous foe.
Despite Leicester having taken all three Championship encounters over Sheffield this campaign, all contests have been competitive. The latest of which came only last Friday, with the Riders running out 75-64 winners.
The side from Yorkshire, however, excel on the big stage. A fact known all too well by Leicester, having lost out to the Sharks in the 2016 Play-Off Final in front of over 12,000 fans at The O2.
Yet, Sheffield Head Coach Atiba Lyons knows his side will have to sharpen up if they’re to take home the Trophy.
“I was disappointed with how we played on Friday,” admitted Lyons.
“We had too many turnovers and one of Leicester’s strengths is that they capitalise on any weakness.
“If we can eradicate unnecessary errors, we’ll be in great shape.”
The Sharks face an uphill battle on Sunday, Leicester undoubtedly enter the weekend as favourites. According to a poll run on the BBL website, only 29% of fans favour the Sharks!
Finals often have a funny way of surprising people, however. The underdog has won the day on many an occasion.
Can Sheffield upset the Riders? All will be decided this Sunday at Emirates Arena.
