The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games are just a handful of days away.
On Thursday, Team England’s Senior Men take to the court to open their campaign against Team Scotland.
Since arriving in Australia the squad have been hard at work.
“We’ve been training a whole lot over the last week,” began forward Jamell Anderson.
“The climate takes some adjusting to, so we’ve been making sure our bodies are ready to perform to the standard we expect from ourselves.
“Our trainers and physiotherapists have been great.”
Admittedly, Anderson has had somewhat of head start when it comes to adapting to the local conditions having made the switch from the British Basketball League (BBL) to the Queensland Basketball League (QBL) in 2017 – winning the QBL State Championship title in his first season with Townsville Heat.
“It’s been great to link up with many of the guys I used to play against in the BBL.
“To get the chance to build an actual picture of how the guys really are, as opposed to just viewing them as the enemy on the other team, has been fascinating.
“The guys in this squad are real competitors on the court and great teammates off it.
“As a group we’re looking to take the Games one day at a time; we have set goals for each of the days.
“We’re looking to get better every time we step on the court.
“We won’t be settling for just being good.
“Winning each day is how we will achieve the bigger picture. We have all bought into the process.”
Team England take on Team Scotland on Thursday, tip off 8:30am (BST).
