Great Britain’s Senior Women enjoyed a memorable opening qualification window in the quest to earn a spot at FIBA EuroBasket Women 2019.
Having bested Israel (90-87) and fallen narrowly to Greece (59-61), the team face a crucial qualification window that will see them take on Portugal on Saturday 10 February at 9pm in Pavilhao before travelling to Tel Aviv to face Israel on Wednesday 14 February at 6.30pm.
“Having secured only one win in the first qualification round means we definitely need to get two wins this window,” explained veteran guard Rachael Vanderwal.
“We have had only a short time in camp so every day has been productive and the focus has been firmly on improving and growing in the right direction.
“The spirit in camp has been really good. Everyone is always happy to be back representing GB and we know how important these two games are.
“We are raring to go!
“We need to win the boards and use our advantage inside against both Portugal and Israel.
“We also need to take care of the ball better and limit our turnovers. We can’t afford to give teams easy baskets and we have to step up team defence.
“You can be sure we’ll play with the same GB grit and fight as always!”
