Newcastle Eagles find themselves in familiar territory. The side from the North East sit second in the Championship standings, just four points behind Leicester Riders with a game in hand, positioned handily to challenge for another league title.
According to veteran guard Drew Lasker, the remarkable consistency of the storied franchise is a result of the “process.”
“It’s a progression,” began Lasker.
“Not getting tired or bored with the small details has been the foundation of the Eagles’ culture and key to our sustained success. That is something this team is beginning to embrace.
“We are young and hungry, so the competitiveness within the group is organic. We have so many guys on our team who are looking to move forward with their careers. It keeps everyone on their game.
“Our focus for this season is now solely on the Championship and Playoffs. The goal has always been to win silverware and we know we are starting to run out of trophies to lift.
“This weekend we can’t get caught up in the recent struggles London Lions and Manchester Giants have endured.
“We can’t underestimate either team.
“That is a sure fire recipe for defeat in this league.
“So long as we continue to focus on our own improvement and really understand our strengths and weaknesses then we won’t go too far wrong.”
