Nottingham Wildcats edged out Caledonia Pride in a thrilling Cup Final in front of a record WBBL crowd at Arena Birmingham to put last year’s disappointment to bed.
“Winning on the big stage has been a goal for us since The O2 last year,” admitted Siobhán Prior.
“It means everything to the club because events like these allow everyone at the club to enjoy success together: younger players, volunteers, parents and fans.
“We’ve been through a lot this year and didn’t have the best of starts to the Championship, which is where we usually hang our hat and feel most comfortable.
“I think it is a testament to the girls and the staff that we have stuck together, remained confident in ourselves and each other and continued to believe we are the team we know we are.
“Winning things and achieving new milestones is addictive and with each new season we set out to feed that addiction.
“We know how rare it is to even get to finals, but at the same time we have the expectation that we will.
“Like all teams in the league, we set our standards high and play each competition to win.
“There is so much of the season left and so many more opportunities to be successful. That’s where our focus will be now.”
