Mackie: time for Pride to translate Cup form into Championship success

For Caledonia Pride, 2018 is already set to be a historic year. The Scottish franchise will have its maiden opportunity to earn silverware, having advanced to January’s Cup Final.

The momentum earned prior to the festive break is something Pride’s Beth Mackie is keen to translate into wins across all competitions.

“I think fighting our way into the Cup Final has definitely given the team a boost heading into the second half of the season.

“The confidence we gained from our performances in the Cup will only help us to improve our league position, if we can carry the same energy and composure into our Championship games.”

Pride travel to Sheffield this weekend to face Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters, less than a month since the side from Yorkshire recorded a comfortable victory in the reverse fixture in Edinburgh.

Although the teams are separated by six positions in the table, Sheffield sitting second in the standings, Mackie believes a solid festive training programme could give the visitors the edge.

“We were back on court, as a team, on January 1st,” detailed Mackie.

“That’s allowed us to have a full week of practice before our first game back after the break. I know that’s longer than many teams have had.

“We are all committed to carrying our momentum forward and improving on our performance against Sheffield earlier in the season.

“It would be great to get off to a strong start before we’re back at the Oriam for a couple of home games in front of our awesome fans.”
