For James Brice the opportunity to be a part of the process that brings Cheshire Phoenix some silverware is something the General Manager has been working towards since he cheered on his hometown club from the stands as a young boy.
“First and foremost I am a fan of the club,” began Brice.
“The last time the club made the Cup Final, Ben [Thomas] and I were in the crowd cheering on as fans.
“No one knows more than us just how special it would be to win a trophy for Cheshire Phoenix.
“We have over 400+ fans making the trip down to Birmingham which is amazing. The club has great support.”
The Ellesmere Port native took on the General Manager role back in 2015 and has since worked behind the scenes to put together a side that can compete across all competitions.
“The club has been through its ups and downs over recent years, but for the first time since becoming GM I feel like we have a really settled side and that has shown in our success so far this year.
“We started recruiting pretty much immediately after last season, having already identified the players we wanted to bring in.
“We talk a lot about togetherness and there’s definitely a family feel that surrounds the team.
“It’s a joy to come in every day and work hard.
“The team are great people off the court too which is a huge part of why I believe we’ve been successful.
“I’m really proud of how they have performed so far this season and I’m looking forward to building on that.”
On Sunday, Brice’s team face Worcester Wolves in the BBL Cup Final. A graduate of Worcester University, Brice is more than familiar with the opposition.
“When Worcester made it through to the final I was happy. I spent five amazing years in Worcester and still have lots of friends connected with the club.
“It will be a special day for both teams.
“There’s only one team, however, I want to take home the Cup and that’s Cheshire.”
