Basketball England confirm Men’s and Women’s entry for Commonwealth Games

Basketball England announced today that England will be competing in both the Men’s and Women’s basketball competitions at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.

England were today confirmed in the Men’s Basketball competition alongside debutantes Canada and Cameroon, plus Australia, India, New Zealand, Nigeria and Scotland after all accepted invites which were endorsed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

The Women’s team were also announced today with England taking up a spot alongside Australia, India, Malaysia, Mozambique and New Zealand, Canada and Jamaica will also be in attendance as debut nations for basketball.

The GC2018 basketball competition will feature eight teams in both men’s and women’s competitions. Split into two pools of four, nations will face off against teams in their pool during the preliminary rounds held in Townsville and Cairns between 5-10 April. The finals will then be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 13-15 April.

The pools and match schedules for the Basketball preliminaries will be announced in the coming weeks. Rosters for both teams will also be announced nearer the event.
