Scotland hold court to take 2017 Celtic Clash title

This year’s Celtic Clash saw Scotland’s Senior Men welcome Ireland and Wales to Scotland’s National Performance Centre for a series of International Test games.

Scotland got the weekend-long series underway as they eased past Ireland in the Celtic Clash opener (82-58). Kieron Achara (23p-9r) and Ali Fraser (21p-9r) controlled the paint, propelling Scotland to an early double-digit advantage that would continue to grow throughout the contest. Ciaran O’Sullivan led the way for the Irish with 15 points.

Ireland’s second encounter proved a much more enjoyable outing, as the team in green powered past Wales to finish the weekend on a high (85-55). The victors put down an early marker, opening the contest on a 7-0 run, before stretching out their lead over the remainder of the game. Lorcan Murphy led Ireland with 17 points, while teammates Cian Nihill and Adrian O’Sullivan both added 16 points. James Dawe shone for Wales with a game-high 19 points.

Scotland concluded the weekend in fine form, collecting the Clash title with their second victory of the weekend (108-44). A barrage of first-half buckets, from beyond the arc set the tone as the hosts scored at will: Wales powerless to stop the Scottish onslaught. Ali Fraser (18p-10r), Skyler White (17p), Lee Reilly (14p-8r), Eddie Matthew (11p) and Fraser Malcolm (11p-7r) all scored in double-digits for Scotland.
