Great Britain ease past Belarus U20 in Minsk

Great Britain’s Senior Women secured a victory over the Belarus U20 side, in their second tournament game in Minsk.

The team were in fine form after yesterday’s impressive victory over Argentina and will want to continue this trend heading into game 3 on Thursday.

Coach Chema Buceta made one change to his starting line-up with McGarrachan for Vanderwal, Collins, Emanuel-Carr, Handy and Stewart.

The game started out with a quick exchange of baskets, but GB pulled away in the first and never looked back, taking a 13 point lead into the second.

Britain got it going from 3-point land with splash sisters Simpson and Emanuel-Carr combining for back to back 3 pointers. GB continued their fine shooting form to lead by 15 at half time. (42-27)

Shaw made her impact known in the third with some monster rebounds and assists in the post. A nice kick out was made to Simpson who made the 3. GB led by 22 with 30 seconds remaining in the third.

Belarus attempted to make a run in the fourth before Stewart began to dominate the boards and Simpson continued with her 3 point barrage.

Chantelle Handy top scored with 18 points, while Eilidh Simpson added 17 points & Melita Emanuel-Carr had 14 points.
