GB finish 2nd at 2017 Handibasket Open International Féminin

British Wheelchair Basketball’s Women flew out to the picturesque Cluses, France to continue their preparation for the upcoming European Wheelchair Basketball Championships at Handibasket Open International Féminin. Pitted against France, Netherlands and Canada, the event proved an excellent run out for the squad.

Great Britain began the tournament with a couple of hard-fought defeats, to Canada (57-61) and Netherlands (49-71), before rounding out the Group phase with victory over France (62-56).

A stunning semi-final performance (51-27), that began with a 10-0 run and saw the team concede only 27 points, saw Great Britain exact revenge on Canada to book their place in the final alongside Netherlands.

The tournament concluded in fitting fashion as both sides went back and forth in a thrilling encounter. A late Great Britain comeback, thanks to a barrage of triples, fell short and it was Netherlands who took home gold – the final score 69-60.
