Great Britain just miss out on Bronze at 2017 Osaka Cup

Great Britain fell just short of a bronze medal finish, at this year’s Osaka Cup, after a competitive weekend of wheelchair basketball.

The team began with a 57-48 defeat to Australia but bounced back in style with an impressive 65-42 victory over Japan. Great Britain lost out to eventual winner Netherlands (40-72) in their final group game.

The 2017 Osaka Cup bronze medal game saw Great Britain take on Japan once more; this time, however, it was the host nation who secured victory – Japan closing out a 55-44 win.

Great Britain captain Sophie Carrigill and teammate Joy Haizleden were both named in the tournament’s All-Star 5.
