Nottingham Wildcats secured their place in the Semi-Finals of the WBBL Cup after defeating Team Northumbria 92-71, on Sunday. Ashley Harris produced a stunning double-double with 22 points and 22 rebounds, with Siobhan Prior netting a game-high 23 points as the duo helped the Wildcats set a showdown with Sevenoaks Suns in the last four. The Wildcats had lost their first league encounter against Manchester Mystics yesterday, but bounced back to continue their pursuit of the season’s first piece of silverware. Nottingham finished the opening period with the final five points to begin to pull away and had led by as many as 15 points in the second before the visitors cut the gap to 10 at half-time. Prior enjoyed a hot spell during the third with a run of three consecutive three-pointers to extend the gap to 20 points with the Wildcats firmly in control heading into the final period.
Alison Gorrell paced Northumbria with 20 points as they continued to fight in the fourth, although the damage had already been done with their exit confirmed in a 21-point loss.
Four teams remain in the journey to Birmingham for the WBBL Cup Final with the Semi-Final ties to be played first on the opening weekend of December.
