It was a pulsating Super Saturday in the WBBL as, at one point, Leicester Riders, Manchester Mystics, Nottingham Wildcats and Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters were all joint-top of the WBBL Championship table.
That state of affairs lasted for about ten minutes, until the final whistle blew at the Leicester Arena with Riders comprehensively beating Cardiff Met Archers 88-41 to go top outright, bouncing back from a defeat in their last league outing.
The most impressive result of the day had come just moments before as Manchester Mystics toppled Nottingham Wildcats – the previous leaders and reigning champions – 88-56 with Amy Browne, Nicola Welling and Georgia Jones combining for nearly three-quarters of their points.
Wildcats and Mystics are now joint-second, alongside Hatters, who prevailed in a tough second half to beat Sevenoaks Suns 62-57. Stephanie Gandy was the day’s highest points scorer as she shot 80% for 26 points, to break into the top three individual scorers in the WBBL.
Elsewhere, Team Northumbria leapfrogged Barking Abbey Crusaders into sixth in the table as they beat them 53-47 on the road with a combined 36 points for Alison Gorrell (19) and Chloe Bully (17).
