Ashley Harris awarded October’s Molten WBBL Player of the Month

In-form powerhouse Ashley Harris has been awarded the Molten WBBL Player of the Month award after a phenomenal start to the 2016-17 season with Nottingham Wildcats.

Having been one of the standout players during her first season in the UK during 2015-16 which resulted in a place on the Molten WBBL Team of the Year, the centre has returned to that same rich vein of form during the opening weeks of the new campaign.

Harris has averaged a breath-taking 27.8 points per game during her four outings in the WBBL Championship so far and is also pulling down 9.3 rebounds per game. Even when teams have tried to slow her down and put her on the foul line, she has responded as the second best free-throw shooter in the league by shooting 88%.

Her dominance has also been highlighted via four Weekly All-Star Five starting spots during the first five weeks of the season.

Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters’ newest recruit Brittany Winbourne and Great Britain guard Georgia Jones of Manchester Mystics were the nearest challengers to Harris for the award.

The honour for Harris also makes it a Wildcats’ double, since Nottingham play-caller Dave Greenaway was honoured with the Molten WBBL Coach of the Month gong after taking his team to the Betty Codona Classic title and an unbeaten start in the WBBL Championship.
