On Saturday in the WBBL Championship the top three sides comprehensively beat the bottom three sides, all recording home wins after decisive second quarter spells.
Leicester Riders initially went top of the WBBL Championship outright, for two hours, as Dee Hayward led them to a 66-41 victory in their first ever meeting with Oaklands Wolves. They trailed early on, but a second quarter charge put them in control before the league’s best defence closed the game out late on.
A short while later, East Midlands rivals Nottingham Wildcats joined them once more at the top of the table – both now 4-0 – after notching a record 81-43 win over Cardiff Met Archers, paced by the league’s leading scorer Ashley Harris. They scored the opening 13 points of the game, and never looked back.
Finally, Manchester Mystics broke free from a pack in the middle of the table to make third place their own, beating Caledonia Pride 77-52 as Amy Browne (24) and Georgia Jones (17) combined for more than half of their team’s points.
