Esh Group Eagles Newcastle continue to set the early pace in the BBL Championship as Scott Martin celebrated his birthday in style, while DBL Sharks Sheffield also notched an important win on Friday night. Their victims – Surrey Scorchers and Manchester Giants respectively – remain the only two winless sides in the league so far this campaign. Martin had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds as Eagles beat Scorchers 97-66 to move to 4-0, and remain unbeaten against this opposition for three-and-a-half years. Meanwhile, Tony Wroblicky scored 21 and Kyle Odister 20, as Sharks recorded their first home win of the season in beating Giants 80-67. Manchester’s Yorick Williams achieved a major milestone on the night, hitting his 1,000th career three-pointer.
