It was the men (4-1) who took centre stage on Day 5 at the Paralympic Games, concluding the group phase in Rio with a loss to USA.
In a repeat of the London 2012 bronze medal game, it was back and forth opening with nothing to separate the teams over the first 10 minutes: USA led GB 13-12 heading into the second stanza. Unable to find an offensive grove, GB struggled to find regular baskets and were held to just 10 points in the second stanza: heading into half time USA’s advantage had grown to 9 points (31-22). GB went on the attack after the resumption, gaining the better of the third period and reducing the deficit to just 4 points. With the game in the balance, USA put together a game-defining run: pouring in 23 points in the final quarter. As the buzzer sounded to end the group phase, USA took the win 65-48. Gaz Choudhry top scored with 19 points, the only GB player in double figures.
GB Men will now play Australia in the quarter finals game, while GB Women are set to play China in their quarter final clash.
