GB fall to Luxembourg but qualify for EuroBasket 2017

Great Britain fell to an 82-75 loss in Luxembourg in their final qualification game, but that couldn’t stop them qualifying for EuroBasket 2017.

Results in Group B (Germany’s win in Leiden over the Netherlands and Denmark failing to beat Austria by more than 21 points) ensured that GB were one of the four best runners-ups in the seven groups. The BBF board congratulates Head Coach Joe Prunty, his staff and players for qualifying for 2017.

2017 will see GB make their fourth finals appearance in five tournaments, with an interesting mix of young players such as Gabe Olaseni and experienced talent such as Dan Clark, Kieron Achara and Andrew Lawrence developing under Head Coach Joe Prunty.

24 teams will feature in EuroBasket 2017, with the draw taking place in Istanbul on November 22nd.

They will form four pools of six for the group phase, which takes place in Istanbul (Abdi Ipekci Arena), Helsinki (Hartwall Arena), Tel Aviv (Menora Mivtachem Arena) & Cluj-Napoca (Polyvalent Hall).

The knockout stage – including the final – will be played at the 16,000 capacity Sinan Erdem Dome.
