England Central retain School Games crown

England Central continued their dominance at the School Games, retaining their title after an unbeaten campaign culminated in victory over England South in the gold medal game.

After a hard-fought group stage, it was to be England Central (2-0), England South (2-0), England North (1-1) and Wales (1-1) who acquired sufficient points to qualify for the tournament’s semi-finals stage. Scotland (0-2) and Northern Ireland (0-2) just missed out, the result of a tough group schedule.

England South produced an impressive defensive display, holding their semi-final opponents to just 18 points, while England Central too booked their spot in the final with an eye catching showing against a strong England South team.

It would be the current champions, England Central, who once again showed their firepower with another offensive master class in the final. Overwhelming the South’s defence to claim the title, Jon Dunn, Pete Cusack and Alex Mitton all scored double-digits as Central racked up 64 points to South’s 37.
