Enes Kanter compares Russell Westbrook to Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Thunder’s trip to Spain

The Oklahoma City Thunder will travel to Spain to take on Real Madrid and FC Barcelona Lassa in October as part of the NBA Global Games Europe 2016 presented by BBVA, giving Spanish basketball fans the chance to watch some of the best talent in the NBA.

Tickets for NBA Global Games Europe 2016 presented by BBVA went on sale on Monday and Enes Kanter, who joined the Thunder back in February 2015 was full of praise when talking about his experience in Oklahoma so far. He said: “It’s been amazing from day one. The day I got traded, they opened their arms. I feel like I am at home with my big family. Every time I’m on the floor and off the floor, I feel at home. I feel like I’m in Turkey. They have been really nice and have really taken care of me. They respect everything.”

Current NBA regular season MVP Steph Curry has been likened to football star Lionel Messi, but Kanter doesn’t agree with that comparison. He said: “Messi is the No. 1 football player in the world and nobody is even close to him. Maybe a little bit (Cristiano) Ronaldo. But right now, I don’t think Steph Curry is like that. I would pick Westbrook over Steph Curry every day.”

A key part of the Thunder’s success during the season was the form of point guard Russell Westbrook. When asked to offer a footballing comparison for Westbrook, Kanter commented: “I feel I would compare him to Cristiano Ronaldo. Because he has that body, he has that energy. And he’s impacting the game with that energy and athleticism. So I would compare him to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kanter is a keen football fan and when quizzed on his favourite football team, it appears NBA Global Games in October could provide the perfect opportunity for the 24-year-old to watch his favourite team play. He said: “It might be Barcelona because there is a Turkish guy playing there. His name is Arda Turan. He plays for Barcelona and they are doing a really good job.”
