Bart Sengers has been be appointed as the new National Performance & WBBL Franchise coach on a two-year contract. The highly respected Dutch coach will take charge of the WBBL franchise & Female National team Programme with immediate effect.
This role will work with those players who have the potential to play at the Commonwealth Games and players who have long term potential to represent Scotland and Great Britain alongside a complement of highly talented non-Scottish players. Importantly, he will also work with coaches and clubs who buy into our system to support their development where he can. We are also looking at the additional support we can put around clubs and coaches who want to develop players to a high standard.
Sengers joins the organisation with a vast coaching experience in the female game behind him having lead numerous Dutch National squads at Euro A Championships & been awarded coach of the year for two consecutive seasons in the Dutch Senior Women’s National League with Eurosped Twente and Lekdetec Bemmel respectively.
His early career saw him installed as assistant coach with the Senior and U18 Dutch National teams before progressing to lead their Under 18 Women at Euro A in both 2015 & 2016. His appointment is a huge coup for basketballscotland, the WBBL Franchise and our National Squad and was part of a rigorous recruitment process which saw a number of high quality coaches apply from which Sengers emerged as the outstanding candidate.
In the last 2 seasons he has been Head of Women’s Performance Basketball at the University of Edinburgh leading them to success in the Scottish Basketball Championships as well as hugely successful campaigns in BUCS.
