TUBPodcast has been given exclusive quotes from the Chicago Bulls’ Pau Gasol. Pau talks about Chicago’s chances of securing a place in the playoffs, his battle with a knee injury and this summer’s Olympics.
On his knee injury: “It’s not uncommon in this situation for the knee to swell up. I just have to manage it and do the best we can. The swelling is part of it – it can come and go. The knee will react and then needs a little time to settle back to where it needs to be in order (for me) to go at it again. It happened right after the Miami game (on March 11) but I think it was just a case of fighting through what I was feeling at the time and overloading it and at some point the knee just said ‘enough’ I guess.”
How he rates Chicago’s playoff chances behind Detroit and Indiana: “As long as we win the next game, we give ourselves a chance. We do really have to take it one game at a time. We have a very tough schedule coming up so we need to come out and give our best, get some confidence going and feel good about what we’re doing.”
His thoughts on his knee and being ready for the Olympics this summer: “I don’t know. Right now I am just concerned about the season. Come the end of the season, we will have a chance to deal with it the way we should. Hopefully the damage will stay the same and not increase. Potentially it could, but we’re doing our best to make sure it doesn’t. And at the same time, the urgency is there to be on the floor and help the team.”
