BBL 2015-16 Round Up: 6 April

With just a handful of games remaining, Leicester Riders are still on course to win the BBL Championship after they completed an 80-65 success against London Lions to equal their club record winning streak of 12 consecutive victories in all competitions.

Their latest triumph came thanks to the sparkling duo of Tyler Bernardini and Neil Watson. The backcourt duo were in fine form, with the former setting the tone in the early stages and giving Riders the platform for victory.

In a scorching first-half shooting performance, he made every one of his first seven shots from the field to end up with 20 points by the interval.

At that point, Riders looked to be flying and potentially out of sight at 46-30. But to their credit, Lions came roaring back – fuelled by some great work from Nick Lewis.

He initiated a recovery and the home fans were beginning to get a little nervy when the visitors cut the deficit to four points at 52-48. They were perhaps wondering if Riders’ play-caller Rob Paternostro might be subjected to the jinx of having just picked up his Molten BBL Coach of the Month award.

But with Watson pulling the strings, the home supporters were soon at ease as he helped the Riders soar away again.

The playmaker eventually finished with a classy double-double of 21 points and ten assists as the hosts strode to victory.

Leicester Riders 80 (18,46,61) (Bernardini 23, Watson 21, Sullivan 9)
London Lions 65 (13,30,53) (Lewis 22, Oyedeji 10, Watt 10)
