BBL 2015-16 Round Up: 28 February

Manchester Giants claimed their sixth BBL Championship win of the season after defeating Plymouth University Raiders for the third time with a 91-83 victory.

Jerelle Okoro produced a season-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, whilst collecting six steals as six players in total reached double-figures.

Callum Jones was one assist shy of an impressive triple-double after finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.

The Giants used a 12-1 burst in the opening period to establish a double-digit advantage as they poured in 30 first-quarter points. Plymouth were down by as many as 14 points in the first, but hit back in the second and took the lead on the back of a 12-2 run.

The visitors maintained their advantage up to half-time and beyond, before Manchester tied the game at 57 with a 7-0 run. The home side then scored the final 10 points of the period to lead 69-60 heading into the fourth quarter.

Stefan Gill’s triple increased the lead to 12 points, but an 8-0 reply saw Plymouth set up a tense finale. The gap was down to two points with two minutes remaining before the Giants scored eight unanswered points to all but seal the win.

Meanwhile, Gill and Cory Dixon were ejected late on before Reiss Haggith iced the win after going 1-of-2 from the line to finish with 12 points.

Dixon had racked up 22 points, nine rebounds and six blocks before his disqualification as the Raiders dropped to a 9-15 record – alongside Leeds Force.

Manchester join Surrey Scorchers and Bristol Flyers on 12 points – three wins behind the coveted top eight.
