England under 16s have been relegated to Division B after losing 77-52 to Greece in the battle for 13th at the European Championships, in Lithuania on Sunday. Alan Keane’s side had beaten Greece earlier in the tournament but were unable to repeat their heroics from yesterday as they finish 14th in the final relegation spot.
Despite a difficult first group phase England showed their class with several excellent performances that almost secured their Division A status. Just the day before, England came from 21 points down to beat Israel 77-76 on the back of a thrilling comeback to keep their hopes of survival alive at the European Championships, having previously been narrowly beaten 66-65 by Latvia in the 9th-16th Classification Round on Friday (a victory would have ensured survival).
The under 16s make an immediate return to Division B, where they will compete next summer.
