The British Basketball League (BBL) today announced the appointment of Bob Hope as Commercial Director.
Bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge, Hope has worked across a broad spectrum of roles within the sport.
He was appointed by basketball manufacturer Molten ten years ago as the sole distributor for both the UK and Ireland and worked at the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Hope was formerly Commercial Director of Basketball Marketing Ltd, raising millions of pounds for the sport as well as introducing a range of sponsors and blue chip companies to the game.
He also established his own TV production company, ‘Bob Hope TV Productions Ltd’ and went on to televise live basketball matches for BBC, ITV, BskyB, Channel 4 and Eurosport.
“I have been involved in basketball at all levels in the UK and in all kinds of roles,” said Hope.
“Basketball is a fabulous sport and over the years, I have sought to bring greater awareness of basketball to all age groups.
“I am pleased to be able to accept the opportunity the BBL has offered.
“I now look forward to the challenge of obtaining greater TV exposure for BBL and GB games – as well as attracting major sponsors back into the sport.”
In addition, Hope has been of chairman of two successful companies over the past 15 years and was previously the co-owner of Birmingham Bullets in the 1980s.
He is also a former coach and was General Manager for the Great Britain men’s Olympic basketball teams in 1980 and 1984.
Hope’s appointment follows the departure of David Dunbar.
